The average adult human body is 60%-70% water. We expel water by breathing, urinating, sweating, etc. so it is vital to keep it replenished. Furthermore, without a constant stream of fresh water running through our bodies, they can become equivalent to stagnant pools and even die from their own toxicity. The human body can go approximately two months without food but will perish in mere days without water.
Water is also very important for digestion and metabolism, joint function, breathing and much, much more. Insufficient water intake can lead to excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, soreness, digestive problems and increased toxicity. Water retention occurs as a way for the body to compensate for lack of water. This condition can often be remedied simply by drinking more water!
Drinking sufficient water is one of the most key elements in weight loss. Without it, bodies can’t metabolize properly and, thus, keep weight on, even if they are working out. So, how much water do you need every day?
The best ratio is 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of body weight you have. For athletic people, the ratio is 2/3 ounce per pound. If you don’t want to do the math, you can drink 8-10 eight-ounce glasses of water per day and 12-14 glasses if you’re very active. People that are overweight should add an additional glass of water for every 25 pounds that they are overweight. Spread these out throughout the day to make it easier to get down and to keep your body consistently hydrated.
